Rose Sofia Light Installation

A Symbolic Blend of Beauty and Architecture

Inspired by the timeless beauty of the rose and the meticulous attention to detail found in architectural masterpieces of the past century, designer Ivan Radev sought to create a light installation that would evoke a sense of harmony and aesthetic appeal. The installation was specifically designed for the Rose Sofia social club, located in the historic center of Sofia, Bulgaria, where the owners also happen to run a Bulgarian Rose laboratory.

The main objective of the Rose Sofia Light Installation was to symbolize the essence of a rose in a visually stunning and memorable way, while also ensuring that it harmoniously blended with the dimensions and parameters of the building. Standing at an impressive 1100mm in height and diameter, each rose-shaped installation component was meticulously crafted using opal acrylics and fitted with LED lighting.

What sets this light installation apart is its ability to be controlled and programmed using a computer software. This allows for complete freedom in adjusting the color, brightness, rhythm, movement, frequency, and intensity of the lights, creating a mesmerizing light show that enhances the ambiance of the space. The synchronized movements of all the roses work together to create a powerful impression and set the perfect mood.

The Rose Sofia Light Installation was a creative and technical challenge, as it required the design to communicate with the aesthetics of the past while incorporating modern technology. By successfully blending the beauty of nature with the precision of architectural design, Ivan Radev has created a truly unique and captivating piece of art.

This exceptional design was recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2018. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the Rose Sofia Light Installation, which seamlessly integrates art, science, design, and technology to enhance the quality of life and create a visually stunning experience.
